What’s in the bag

I travel light – I’m typically only away for a few days at a time.

Camera: Nikon J1 with with 10-30mm lens.
The J1 is a tiny camera but produces amazing results. I’ve always been a fan of Nikon gear. It takes a standard SD card, which can be bought cheaply in a multitude of shops. It’s also very well built – it just gets thrown in the bag and takes a lot of abuse. One charge is good for a couple of thousand photos, so I don’t take the charger with me.

Phone: Huawei P10 Lite with Giffgaff SIM
The P10 Lite is a great phone – but, then, there’s really not a lot between phones nowadays anyway. It’s more a case of “How much do you want to spend”. Giffgaff, with the EU roaming agreement, simply let me use my exisiting products in any EU country. This is great, as it means that there’s no extra charges than I’d pay in the UK.

Laptop: Macbook Air with an 11.6″ screen.
I use a Macbook Pro as my main laptop, but elected to buy a smaller one that I can easily chuck in the bag and not be too bothered about losing. It’s less powerful, but it’s definitely enough for the needs I have when travelling. It cost just under 300 quid from eBay.

Other stuff: Satechi Smart Travel Router and an Anker USB battery pack.
The Satechi Smart Travel Router is incredibly well designed bit of kit. It converts a Euro plug or US plug into a UK plug. It also converts to 2x USB, meaning that one device can be used to power my laptop, charge my phone and also my external power pack.
